Flipside for iPhone · Effective 27 October 2026

In short: Flipside sends anonymous counts of which players and features are used. It never sends anything about your music. There are no accounts, no adverts and no tracking. You can turn the counts off in the app at any time.

Flipside is made by Strange Attractor FZ-LLC, United Arab Emirates ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Flipside app for iPhone and this website.

What we collect

Anonymous usage counts. To learn which parts of Flipside people use, the app sends short usage events to TelemetryDeck, an analytics service built for privacy. An event says things like "a tape was loaded", "the second player was chosen" or "a share clip was saved". Each event can only carry fixed choices that are written into the app, such as which player, which of our own tape designs, or whether a switch is on. The app is built so that it cannot put a song, album, artist or playlist name, or anything you type, into an event.

Along with each event, TelemetryDeck's software adds basic technical details: the app version, the iPhone model, the iOS version, the language, region and time zone, and some accessibility settings (such as a larger text size). It also adds an identifier made by scrambling (hashing) an ID that iOS gives the app. TelemetryDeck scrambles it again on its servers. It lets us count how many different phones use a feature. It cannot be turned back into the original ID, and it is not linked to your name, your Apple Account, your email address or any other app.

Like any internet connection, sending an event reveals your phone's IP address to TelemetryDeck's servers. TelemetryDeck states that it does not store IP addresses.

We use the counts only to improve Flipside. We do not use them to track you, we do not combine them with other data about you, and we do not sell or share them for advertising.

Turning it off. Usage counts are on when you install the app. To stop them, open the menu (tap FLIPSIDE), then SETTINGS, and turn off Share anonymous usage. From then on the app sends nothing to TelemetryDeck.

What we do not collect

Flipside has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites.

Apple Music

With your permission, Flipside reads the playlists and albums saved in your Apple Music library and plays them through Apple's MusicKit. This happens on your iPhone and between your iPhone and Apple, under Apple's own privacy policy. To show an album's cover, the app may look the album up in the Apple Music catalogue, which is also a request to Apple. None of your music information is sent to us or to TelemetryDeck. You can change this permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Photos (share clips)

If you record a share clip, Flipside asks for permission to add to your Photos. This permission lets the app save new clips only. It cannot see, read or change anything already in your Photos. Clips are made on your iPhone, are silent, and never include album cover art. After saving, Flipside can open the standard iOS share sheet; what you share, and where, is up to you.

Camera

On iPhone Duo, Flipside can show a live camera picture behind the cassette lid window, so the lid looks see-through. The picture is shown on screen only. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. You can refuse camera access and the app still works.

Motion

Flipside reads the phone's tilt to move reflections on the player slightly. This stays on your iPhone.

Kept on your iPhone

Your settings, the loaded tape and the pictures the Home Screen widget shows are stored on your iPhone only. They are removed when you delete the app.

Support emails

If you write to us, we receive what you send. CONTACT SUPPORT in the app fills in the app version, iPhone model, iOS version and the player you are using; you can change or delete these before you send. We use your email only to answer you, and delete it when it is no longer needed.

Children

Flipside does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The usage counts described above are the same for every user.

Your choices and rights

You can turn off usage counts in SETTINGS, refuse or withdraw Apple Music, Photos or camera access in iOS Settings, and delete the app to remove everything it stored on your iPhone. Because the usage counts are not linked to you, we cannot pick out the counts from your phone. If you have a question or a request about your data, write to us and we will help where we can.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
